LOMI LOMI NUI
Lomi lomi is a traditional Hawaiian massage that is delivered in the form of a rhythmic flow; it is in effect, a wave, simulating the undulation of the ocean surf. Utilizing warm coconut oil, elements of prayer, deep breathing, and Hawaiian song, it reorients the self to a unified whole by inviting shifts in consciousness and soothing the organic, animal body. It is known as the “loving hands” massage and is practiced to induce states of ecstasy and emotional release. It works gently yet deeply into the muscles with continuous, flowing strokes delivered by the fingers, thumbs, palms, arms, and elbows. Essential to the work is allowing oneself to receive and be nurtured.
To glide deftly, this massage utilizes oil to excess and per the custom, is conducted while the recipient is nude with minimal draping.
